How do you take care of an infected open wound on your kitten? |
he is 12 wks old and i had him neutered(i was told this was a safe age). they said one of his testicles hadn't dropped so they had to cut it down, so i would have to take extra care of him. within two days of surgery i caught him licking and that following morning it was an open wound with infection running out. i took him to the vet and they said it would have to heal itself and they gave me meds. they didn't close it back up, is that normal? i have never had a pet before and i don't like seeing him miserable like this. he also has to wear a e-collar now. is there anything else i should be doing to make this heal faster. i think i'm more truamitized than him. i need advice Just follow the advice of the vet. Given them a call if you have any questions. He may seem miserable to you and it will not last forever. He will recover very soon and not remember these unhappy days. Keep an eye on the incision site, if you haven't already please switch to "yesterday's news" litter it is made of compressed paper, otherwise the clay litters can get into the incision and cause further infection, a lot of places will spay or neuter between 6-12 weeks but for future reference it is best to wait until 5-6 months of age. Especially for male pets. It is better to wait because it allows for their urethra to fully develop. If it does not appear better in a few days please bring your kitty to a different vet to be seen also bring all medical papers from your last vet when you go. Yes there is something you can do for him. When you have a cat with an open wound, you can take a capful of hydrogen peroxide and pour it on the wound a couple times a day. This will help it to heal faster, and get rid of the infection. neosporine is the best medication for open wounds on kittes. it doesnt harm them if they ingest it and it heals any wound quickly. You should be asking this of YOUR VET!!! Not unqualified strangers. Stop wasting time on the computer if you're so 'concerned.' Pick up the damn phone and call. Your best option is too listen to your vet. Do not do anything to treat the wound without getting approval from the vet. If the wound appears to get worse or does not get better call the vet. |
