Need wound care advice?

I have a scab on the back of my head, beneath a lot of my very long hair. It has been there for weeks, has gotten infected, and keeps getting larger because it re-opens when I wash my hair or some hair gets stuck o it and then moves away while the open sore is clotting.

The hair's too long to stick a bandage over, and antiseptic obviously isn't going to stay in for very long. Also, the scabre-opens whenever I am in the shower and wash my hair.

What can I do about it?

Oh, and I think this is actually an infected bug bite. I know that it is not from lice, though, because I have been checked for that.

If you think it is infected, you should go to the doctor. You might need to cut some of your hair so that you can cover it with a waterproof bandage. Since it is int he back of your head, you may be able to hide it with your hair. The longer you go, the bigger it will get if you do not get it checked out.

apply a antibotic cream on that spot make sure you get it on the wound and yes that area will be a little greasy but at least it will beable too heal.

cut your hair that would help it may not look good but the sore would heal

go to the dr

Have the doctor look at it, Get prescribed an antibiotic if it is infected, I am sure you don't want to cut the hair around the wound. Use Hydrogen peroxide, and try to go a few days without washing your hair( i know it sounds gross, but better than a big bald spot)

Unfortunately you need to cut the hair from the area of the scab. The scab wont heal if it keeps getting exposed to dampness from the shampooing and the hair attracts bacteria. Since you cant see the scab in the back of your hair have someone help you trim the hair from the area( it will grow back) so that the scab can be looked at and checked for infection. Dont shampoo your hair until you have the scab looked at and treated if it is infected. My daughter had the same thing happen a few years ago. Dont attempt to cut/shave the area by yourself because you may accidently open the scab more. A physician could then remove any more hair that needs to be removed in order to examine and treat the infection.
