Opinions on Kangaroo Wound Care Options?

I have a kangaroo joey with a severe leg injury from hanging in a fence. I've had totally contradictory advice from two separate vets, and am a bit frustrated at this point. So I thought I would get some opinions from you folks. The wounds are open, nothing to stitch. You can see recent photos of them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/pattis_plac... but don't click if you are squeemish! Ok, he's on daily antibiotic injections, but I am of two minds whether I should be using something like an antiseptic powder to dry the wounds out, or an antibiotic ointment? I am changing the dressings daily. I apply a non-stick dressing, then soft thick roll gauze, then vet wrap. What do you guys think? Dry it out or keep it moist?

PJJ, I tried the link to the photos and it did not work. Send me the photos in mail and I will take a look.
Thanks.

This is the message that I got at:

I went to your questions profile and got the link. You asked the question twice.

My folks had an Appaloosa colt that went through a barbed wire fence and cut up his chest. The Vet sold them some sulfa powder that was bright orange. There were no stitches and the lacerations healed slowly from the inside out.

This is as close as I can to the product that was used 40 years ago.
